It’s Not Just About the Coffee

At Tega & Tula, we believe that a strong community is the foundation of a strong society. That’s why we focus on developing and implementing different projects that will benefit the livelihoods of our communities. We also believe that the community that has given the world the finest arabica coffee deserves to have access to quality infrastructure education, healthcare, and economic empowerment and make sure that the magnificent gem of a land that they have lived off of for generations is preserved and protected. That’s why we automatically reinvest 5% of our annual revenue back into improving community services and projects.
We are committed to making a difference in the lives of our community members. We believe that by working together, we can create a better future for everyone involved in the value chain. Some of our works include:

EDUCATION

We believe that education is the key to a brighter future, and we are proud to play a role in helping the children in our communities reach their full potential. In Gembo woreda Tega kebele, we built a secondary school that now provides education to 400 students. We are also currently supporting the construction of Tula kebele secondary school. In addition, we provide annual scholarship opportunities up to college for young girls students that have excelled in their studies. Currently, we have three young ladies that are benefiting from this opportunity.

ACCESS TO ROADS

building roads connect communities and provide safer path toward development. We are proud to have built an 8.5km road in Kaffa (Tega & Tula) kebele that connects to major roads and a 9.5km road in Anderacha (Shera Mountain). Currently, we are constructing a 13km road in Gesha. These roads will improve access to other communities, markets, schools, and healthcare, and will help to boost economic development in these regions. We are proud to be making a difference in the lives of people in Kaffa, Anderacha, and Gesha, and we are committed to continuing our work to improve the infrastructure in these communities.

HEALTH CARE

We are committed to improving the health and well-being of people in Anderacha Woreda. We have supported the woreda by building a higher clinic with 3 overnight treatment wings and a children’s vaccination room. This clinic will provide much-needed healthcare services to the people of Anderacha, and provide vaccinations for children, which will help to protect them from preventable diseases. We are proud to be making a difference in the lives of people in Anderacha Woreda.

ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER

In Tega and Tula, we built a communal water pump that provides clean water to the community and staff. This pump has made a significant difference in the lives of people in the community, as they no longer have to walk long distances to collect water from contaminated sources. The pump has also helped to reduce the spread of waterborne diseases.

ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

We are committed to supporting our smallholder farmers by paying them a premium for the supply of quality coffee to our washing stations. We believe that farmers should be fairly compensated for their hard work and dedication and that paying them a premium is the right thing to do. Our premium pay program has had a significant impact on the lives of our farmers.

SUSTAINABILITY

We are committed to sustainable coffee production. We have provided 500,000 disease-resistant seedlings produced in our nursery sites free of charge to smallholder coffee farmers within each of our farms. We plan to reach 3 million by 2025. We are also installing eco-friendly wet mills, and new solar drying technology as part of our climate-smart farming and processing practices. These initiatives will help to reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to preserving the environment. We are proud to be taking these steps to ensure that coffee production is conducted by preserving the environment and making it sustainable for future generations.

CONDUCIVE STAFF WORKING CONDITIONS

We believe in creating model farming practices in the coffee industry. Our permanent and seasonal staffs enjoy conducive staff working conditions provided with residential housing, accommodations and relevant amenities
