Tega & Tula
Specialty Coffee

Approximately 460 km southwest of Addis Ababa, in the Heart of the Kafa Biosphere Reserve, lie the dense and wild natural Bonga jungle of Gembo woreda; a nature reserve registered by UNESCO for its unmatched beauty, character and heritage. One of the unique qualities of this hallowed jungle (Kafa Biosphere Reserve) is that it is where the famous and ancient origin story of Arabica Coffee comes from. It also contains close to 5,000 wild varieties of the plant in this biodiversity hotspot.

It is in the Kafa Biosphere Reserve where Tega and Tula Special Coffee Farm Agro industry PLC first established itself as one of the fast-growing and modern coffee producer, processor and exporter of specialty grade arabica coffee through the FairChain business model. Soon after, spreading operations to the Sheka Biosphere Reserve which is also UNESCO-registered and Guji Zone; an area known for producing its renowned coffee variety with a perfect combination of high altitude, consistent rainfall, fertile soils, and rich nutrients. Currently, we manage multiple coffee farms and washing stations distributed in the three areas with the same Agro-ecologies.

JASON LONG

CEO – Café Imports

Tega & Tula Coffee Farm is an anchor relationship for Cafe Imports, and every year the lots and the traceability get better -In 2007, Cafe Imports head of sourcing and CEO, Jason Long, cupped a coffee from a western region of Ethiopia not very well-known then for high-quality coffee, and it inspired him to venture outside of sourcing in Yirgacheffe, Sidama, and Harrar for the first time. The coffee turned out to be from a single farm, Tega & Tula Specialty Coffee Farm, established in the year 2000 by Ahadu Woubhset. The farm is certified organic and produces both Washed and Natural coffees, and it not only has a wonderful flavor profile but also full traceability down to the producer—and nowadays down to the “block,” or subplot level” and this is why Tega & Tula Coffee Farm is an anchor relationship for Cafe Imports.

Ahmad Alkar

CEO Kahaman Dubai General Trading Co. LLC

Coffee is more than a business for me, and Tega & Tula is the trusted source and thought partner in my coffee business. During my visit to Ethiopia and Gujji Hambela I was captivated by the finesse of the green beans and mesmerized by how everyone working at the cleaning and processing facilities cared greatly to the quality of each bean. The deep cultural values entrenched within signifies that coffee is not just a bean or a brew, but also a story. As I sipped each spoonful, I experience the story of each member of the coffee family, I experience quality and I experience nature’s beauty. I have also started buying Cascara and Anaerobic coffee processing varieties partaking in their innovative journey to adding value and variety to Ethiopian Arabica coffee.
